Stop Smoking Treatment

Stop Smoking Treatment

To stop smoking, users face a number of challenges that can be overcome by the correct stop smoking treatment. What is it? Stop smoking or smoking cessation is the process of discontinuing the practice of inhaling a smoked substance. Stop smoking programs chiefly target tobacco smoking, but can also cover other substances with the aim of reducing the problems brought on by addictions or psychological dependencies resulting from the smoking habit.

Today we’ll focus exclusively on cessation of cigarette smoking. However, the methods described can apply to cessation of smoking other substances.

Practice shows that only a minority of smokers can successfully stop their smoking habit on the first attempt. Many studies indicate that the unsuccessful attempts happen because the addict is just tired of trying. A serious commitment combined with an effective stop smoking treatment is necessary to achieve victory over nicotine dependency.

• In a growing amount of countries, there are more ex-smokers than smokers.

• Up to three-quarters of ex-smokers boast that they stopped with no assistance (“cold turkey).

• A serious and successful attempt by does not necessarily require nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) or other drugs but a stop smoking treatment really helps.

• Early “failure” is a regular part of eventual victory. Many opening attempts are not really serious. They’re just trial runs until the right stop smoking treatment is found.

• NRT, other prescribed pharmaceuticals, and expert counseling or can really help many smokers, but are certainly not absolutely required.

Information of the smoking habit

Everyone knows that tobacco contains the substance nicotine. Smoking cigarettes leads to a dependence on nicotine. Cessation of smoking leads to physiological symptoms of withdrawal. Methods of smoking cessation ought to direct this dependency and following withdrawal symptoms.

Ways to successfully end the smoking habit

1. Abrupt v gradual

• Quitting "cold turkey": Abrupt cessation of all nicotine habit as opposed to gradually slowing down the frequency (tapering). It is the quitting method used by 80 to 90% of long-term successful quitters.

• Gradual reduction involves little by little reduction of daily intake of nicotine.

2. Pharmacological

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has permitted seven medications in lieu of treating nicotine addiction. All of these helped with withdrawal symptoms, cravings.

• Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) Five of the permitted medications are special methods of delivering nicotine in a manner that helps quitters taper use.

The five NRT medications are:

1) transdermal nicotine patches provide small doses of the addictive substance nicotine, and mitigates some of nicotine withdrawal symptoms. These patches can provide lower and lower doses of nicotine, little by little reducing cravings for tobacco. This method is a very popular stop smoking treatment and frequently successful when combined with other medication and psychological support.

2) gum

3) lozenges

4) sprays

5) inhalers
